First time, I guess, that father and son figure among my favourite albums of the year. First Justin Townes Earle with Kids In The Street and a couple of weeks later Justin’s father Steve Earle releases a brilliant album with his band The Dukes. So You Wannabe An Outlaw is proof, if needed, that the talent of songwriting can go in a family.
“his craft is, if anything, better, and similarly his voice is showing its age but his phrasing is as smart and dramatically effective as it has ever been. So You Wannabe an Outlaw is something plenty of Steve Earle fans have been wanting for years, a no-excuses country album that updates his breakthrough work, and it’s an effort that should please his core audience while also sounding like an album Earle made entirely on his own terms.” (Allmusic.com)
Outlaw is Earle’s 16th studio album, some of them like Guitar Town or Copperhead Road are masterpieces.
